George's Birthday

On Sunday, we celebrated George's 27th birthday! He got his present a few days early this year. Here are a few pictures from Sunday.

Madeline and George -- she wore a little onesie that said ME + DAD = LOVE

George, his Grandma, and Madeline. I think Madeline got her first lesson in Spanish. We got a delicious cake from Culver's (Oreo custard)...YUM!

Yesterday, Madeline had her first pediatrician appointment. She did really well and only cried a little bit. She weighed in at 7lbs, 10oz...they said that it normally takes babies a couple of weeks to get up to their birth weight.

Also, Grandma Warren gave Madeline her first bath the other day. I have just been washing her down with a wash cloth. She was SO squirmy during her bath. It is definitely going to be something that George and I need to tag-team next time.

Madeline Marie Lucas

I am so very, very happy to announce that our sweet baby girl, Madeline Marie Lucas, has arrived! She was born on Tuesday, October 22 at 2:11PM. She weighed 8lbs, 4oz and was 20.5 inches long. We are so incredibly in love with her. She is a very sweet baby who loves to cuddle. I have a ton of pictures to post on here, but first I will give a little run-down of the labor and delivery.

On Monday night, I went over to my friend Marie's house to help her with a project for her wedding. As I was getting ready to leave around 10:30PM or so, I felt what I thought was my water breaking. I told Marie, but I honestly was not sure if it was my water breaking because it was a very small amount of fluid. I got in the car to head home and called George on my way to let him know. When I got home, I had a little more fluid leak and George and I decided to head to the hospital to have them check to see if was amniotic fluid. When we got there, they checked and it turned out that I had a very small trickle of fluid leaking (later on the doctor fully broke my water).

I was admitted to the hospital around 12:30AM on Tuesday and they took us back to our labor and delivery room. They hooked me up to the machines to monitor Madeline and my contractions. I was having contractions, but they were not painful (I was 3.5 cm at that point). I fell asleep for a few hours and at 5AM they decided to start some pitocin to get things progressing faster. I started to feel contractions more and more and around 9AM, I decided to get the epidural. Getting the epidural was the scariest part of the whole process for me because I hate needles and the thought of getting one in my spine wasn't a very pleasant one. The epidural kicked in almost immediately and from there, I felt almost nothing at all. From there, I progressed really quickly (much faster than the nurse and Dr expected, especially for a first pregnancy). By 11:30, I was 10 cm and ready to start pushing). The doctor was actually in the middle of a c-section so they decided to let me "labor down"...basically, just let the contractions happen, but no pushing. Just a little bit before 1PM, the nurse, George, and I went ahead with the pushing, knowing that the Dr was wrapping things up with the c-section. The nurse and George were sooo awesome during the pushing. Renee was nurse and I can't say enough great things about her. She was so calming, informative, and helpful. George was also helpful during the labor and especially during the pushing. He was right there in the action (nurse on one side, George on the other). He was breathing with me, informing me of my progress, and kept me calm. I made really good progress by the time my Dr came in around 1:45PM. She had me step-up the pushing a bit and before I knew it, Madeline was here!

It was incredible to see her for the first time. It is so hard to describe what it was like, but I can remember it so vividly...I hope I never forgot that memory. It was also very special for me to see George's reaction. I have never seen him so excited, yet emotional. He was definitely overcome by it all. Overall, the labor and delivery was such a wonderful experience for both of us. Going into it, I expected a traumatic, painful experience. I was honestly terrified of the process. It couldn't have been more different than what I expected. I am so proud of myself, George, and Madeline...everything went so smooth and we now have a wonderful memory of Madeline's birthday.

We stayed in the hospital on Tuesday night and Wednesday night, which was also a great experience. The nurses were very helpful and took great care of Madeline and me. On Thursday, we headed home. And actually, we were just getting discharged when Parker Stephen Warren was born! We got to see him briefly before we headed home. He is as cute as can be and a little thing (especially compared to his big sister). I can't wait for Madeline and Parker to grow up together.

Our first night home with Madeline was pretty rough. She had a really hard time nursing and was got really frustrated and upset. There was quite a bit of screaming and crying (from Madeline...well, a bit from me too)! We finally managed to all get some sleep. We eventually got the hang of nursing and the timing of her feedings and last night was so much better!! We are hoping for another similar night tonight and it is looking like we'll be in good shape. She has a nice full belly and we are about to go to bed :)

I think this is my longest post ever, but I want to record the details so I can look back later. Here are some pictures of our cutie pie...

Daddy and Madeline

Love this picture of her!

She looks very tiny in her bouncer.

Her facial expression in this picture cracks me up.

She was a good patient and always behaved really well for the nurses.

Less than an hour old...

My baby and me :)

Madeline with some loving aunts...

Paisley and Emily came to visit after Paisley's dance class.

Ready to go home!

Paisley waiting for the news that she is a big sister! The first thing that Paisley said when she say a picture of Parker was, "Parker's hair is crazy!"

We could see Brian and Terrisa's room from across the courtyard from our room (they are the room with the open window)

I forgot that George took this video. I found it on my phone tonight and wanted to share...this is just 15-20 minutes or less after she was born.

Two Bellies!

Just wanted to share a quick picture that Brian took tonight. This could be the last belly shot before the big day (for both of us)! The doctor has told me that the baby is coming any day now so we shall see!!!

Parker and Bumps

On Saturday, we celebrated the upcoming arrival of Parker. Parker is my soon-to-be nephew. Terrisa is due in just a few weeks, but the Dr. (we have the same Dr.) is thinking that it will be more like a week or two (given the fact that Paisley was on the bigger side). Paisley was more than happy to assist Mommy with the present opening. She kept saying "this for Parker?" I think she was hoping that people would say no, it's for you :) :)

I had to post this b/c I think it is soo adorable! The shirt is from Chrissy and the sweater was handmade by my Grandma Clark. What a stylish combo.

Our bags are packed and we're ready to go....

One is for Madeline, one is for me, and one is for George. I posted this on Facebook and someone said that it seemed like a lot of stuff...and I thought I was packing light!!

In case you were wondering how big my bump is...here are a few pictures...pretty big, huh?! :)

And Terrisa's too!

Caramel Apples

I am DONE with classes now! I had finals yesterday and was so relieved when I handed the last one in. I will now have a few months off and will go back in January to finish my final semester before graduation in May. Madeline can officially come anytime :)

We went for an ultrasound on Monday and we are going back for another one tomorrow. Last Monday, they were able to give us an estimate of her size. It looks like she is going to be a pretty big baby. She was 7lbs, 7oz and of course she is still growing! So she will most likely be somewhere between 8-9 pounds! My amniotic fluid was also a bit low last week according to the ultrasound, so they are bringing me back in tomorrow to check on that.

Before I go, I wanted to share some pictures of the caramel apples that I made today. I tried making some last weekend, but I skipped a crucial step.

I started with COLD apples (that was the step I skipped last weekend). The caramel sticks much, much better when they are cold.

I melted caramels with a tiny bit of milk (about 1.5 tablespoons for 20 or so caramels) for 2 minutes, stirring halfway through. I used the soft caramels from Costco.

Next, I dipped the apples in the caramel and rolled them in the toppings. I used M&Ms, Reeses Pieces, and almonds.

I let them harden in the fridge on parchment paper. After the caramel was hard, I put them in clear bags and wrapped with raffia.

A delicious fall treat!

Garage Sale

We had a massive garage sale this morning! My parents are moving so they were getting rid of a bunch of stuff and the rest of us also had a decent amount of stuff so we did a garage sale together in our neighborhood. We had a ton of traffic...it was actually a neighborhood-wide garage sale so that helped a lot, I think.

We is what the garage looked like last night...

This morning everything was pulled out onto the driveway and front yard. The customers showed up promptly at 7am!

It was a very successful day -- altogether, we made around $800!!

Baby Showers!

Over the weekend, Madeline and I were "showered" with so love at two baby showers. On Saturday, my mother-in-law, Anna, hosted a lovely baby shower at the Landmark Restaurant in downtown Mesa (for those of you who were there, it is the same place where our rehearsal dinner was). Many of George's family members were there and we enjoyed a very nice lunch. I have to share a picture of the amazing cake that Anna got...

THEN, on Sunday, my mom, Emily, Hannah, and Terrisa hosted another beautiful shower at my parent's house.  They made some of my favorite food (my mom even made meringues). I loved the decorations that they put together!!

So, when I got home from both showers, George was in charge of emptying the carload of gifts. Seriously, we got a ton of awesome stuff. Between the shower in Rochester and the two showers here, there is bsacially nothing left to get. I can't thank everyone enough for the generous gifts...we were truly showered! I didn't take pictures of everything, but here are a few things...

Madeline officially has a great book collection. Before last weekend, this shelf had 2-3 books and now it is full! My favorite book (The Big Hungry Bear) is part of the collection...can't wait to read to her.

Had to share this gift that Paisley picked out for Madeline :)
Don't mind the shadows, I took these pictures at night.

George especially loved this awesome musical instrument gift from the Fosters...

I am always a sucker for a handmade gift. These gifts look professional...George's cousin's wife, Christi, made this adorable hat and bibs (I don't think I can even use these bibs...they're too nice!)

You should see her dresser and closet too...they are full of adorable clothes.

The official countdown is 2 weeks and 5 days and according to my "What to Expect" app, she is now the size of a watermelon...yep, it certainly does feel like I am carrying a watermelon!! I am getting a bit more uncomfortable now, but I still can't complain too much. She is kicking like crazy; I can tell that she doesn't have much room to move around. On Monday, we go for the 38 week ultrasound. It has been 20 weeks since the last ultrasound so I am very anxious/excited to see what she looks like now (and approximately how big she is too).

Off to bed! PS- ONE more week of school!!
